Results are for game one are already posted on the netball.asn.au web site for the Storm’s first match of the weekend at Marrara.
The home team started strong with a 2 – 0 lead only to suffer a lapse that cost them 6 unanswered goals from the young Fusion line-up.
After a nervous start from both teams Fusion was the first to settle late in the second quarter.
Fusion were given a bit of a scare by Territory Storm resorting to bringing on all 3 members of the QLD Firebirds. Fusion’s shooter’s struggled to fire in the 3rd, with some slick attacking from the home team managing to close the gap 30-34.
With a re-shuffled backline Fusion were looking for more from their defenders. Major changes from Territory Storm saw them struggle to get the ball into the shooting circle. As the changes took too long to settle for the Storm, Fusion extended the gap applying pressure at both ends. An injury to Captain Katherine Hollis allowed Fusion to inject fresh blood in the shooting circle choosing to blood under 19’s player Ameliaranne.
Some crucial breaking calls on the Territory Storm centre passes ensured Fusion had plenty ball supply. Fusion too strong out muscling the home team 50-38.
Territory Storm Coach Dianne Brown said “The Fusions Shooter (Tiata Baldwin) was too strong not only on the hold but the movement in their circle was too hard to defend. They had a run of 5 in the last quarter and we just couldn’t answer that. I was happy with changes we made and will look to start that line again in the future”
